What are cookies?
A cookie is a small text file that a website saves on your computer or mobile device and can identify a web-browser on that computer or mobile device. Cookies can be used for a wide variety of purposes. For instance, user-preferences cookies allow a website to store what language and font-size a person using a particular web-browser prefers so they don’t have to enter those choices the next time they visit the website. Cookies may be set by the website you visit (“first-party cookies”) or by third parties, such as those who serve content or provide website analytics (“third-party cookies”).
Websites may also contain other tracking technologies such as “web beacons” or “tracking pixels,” which can be used for similar purposes as cookies. They are often used in conjunction with cookies, but they are not stored on your computer in the same way.
There are many websites around that describe what cookies are and how they are used on the internet. Although PDT does not endorse the following websites or their content, you may be able to learn more about cookies from aboutcookies.org, allaboutcookies.org, and whatarecookies.com.
What cookies do we use and why?
We use first-party essential cookies that enable you to navigate our website and to use its services and features. We also use first-party cookies to analyze traffic to our website. These cookies allow us to collect data enabling us to infer how our website is used, which pages on our website are most visited, whether visitors return to our website, and other information about how users navigate our website. We use this information to compile aggregated statistical information that helps us improve the structure and content of the website. In particular, we make use of Google Analytics and we store one or more cookies related to that service when you access our website and you consent to the use of cookies. We use these cookies and other information, such as your IP address, your ISP provider, your browser type, the pages you view on the website, the pages you view immediately before and after you access the website, date/time stamps, and any search terms you enter on the website.
Google Analytics service is provided by Google, Inc. (“Google”). We use Google Analytics to collect anonymized statistics in order to improve the structure and content of our website. You can learn about Google’s practices by going to Google Analytics’ Data privacy and security site, and opt out of them by downloading the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. We have taken the following measures to protect the data collected through Google Analytics:
- We have concluded a data processing agreement with Google about how Google may process the data collected through Google Analytics;
- We have configured Google Analytics settings to mask the last octet of user IP addresses;
- We have configured Google Analytics to not share data with third parties; and
- We do not use other Google services in conjunction with Google Analytics.
In addition to cookies, certain information is ordinarily collected by most browsers or automatically through your device, such as your Media Access Control (MAC) address, computer type (Windows or Mac), screen resolution, operating system name and version, device manufacturer and model, language, Internet browser type and version, and the name and version of our website you are using. We may collect and use this information to ensure that our website functions properly.
You can control and/or delete cookies as you wish. When you first visit our website, we display a cookie banner that gives you the option to decide whether or not we are allowed to place non-essential cookies on your device(s), and we will not place any non-essential cookies until you click “Accept.”
Most web browsers have options that allow you to delete all of the cookies already in use and to prevent new cookies from being stored on your device. If you have previously consented to the use of cookies and your cookie preferences have changed, or you would like to exercise a right under laws that may apply to you, please contact us at privacy@pdtpartners.com.
If you withdraw your consent, note that this will not fully remove the cookies that have already been set on your device. You can delete cookies that have already been placed on your device by following the instructions provided by your web browser provider. Please be aware that if cookies are disabled, not all features of the website may operate as intended. Please contact us at privacy@pdtpartners.com if you have any questions or concerns.
